THE BEAUTY OF UN-BELIEVING The church. The presentation of self, of doctrine, of illuminated transgression. The Cathedral. A Place where a Woman could become, for the of the first time in History, a Priest. One of many Components. I’ve always come to love about the Theatre was this Concept called “Suspension of Disbelief”. Allowing Ourselves to Suspend our Belief into the Unreal. As a Child I grew up with Bible Stories and asked to believe them. I’d then attend my weekly class at the theatre and was asked, “Don’t just believe it, bring it to life.” A new world-dreamt up of our very own is lit before us. Suddenly the Sacred, the Antiquity is interlocked with the present. The stories of our childhood, those Classical Folktales and whimsical fairytales—before our very eyes. It’s a Gift, a Blessing, a Channel to a New Perspective. Amidst the Beautiful Rows of Calls to God, a Wish for Peace, of Healing over the World, I lite a candle, say a prayer for the woman who had always reminded me the importance of faith. As it is read in Psalms, Live. Lift up your soul and surrender. We allow ourselves to become so empathic in those few moments of feeling for the characters before us, as vulnerable as we are, especially when were children. We open our hearts to that which is raw, humanistically redefining the image of characters made up for us, giving them a life of our own imagination. We connect that which is History, Science, Mathematics to that which is creative, at the core, all is. We manifest ideas to which propel motivation, the objective—simply out of desire to create something greater then before. We receive Inspiration, a Thought, towards our next Book, Production, Painting, etc. Children’s Theatre, I have found, commemorates a New Avenue for both the Performer and the Viewer to uniformly create space where the next brilliance is due to be brought from Heaven. In the words of Martha Graham, we are a channel. In the words of Eleonora Duse, we are of service. In the words of Kahlil Gibran, we are the soul.
